Castilla-La Mancha

Castilla-La Mancha, located at the very center of the Iberian peninsula, is dominated by an extense tableland, although there are mountainous landscapes too.

Toledo is the capital of Castile and La Mancha. Located about 70 kilometers south of Madrid, it is a "must see" for anyone spending time in the Spanish capital. Located on a small hill, it is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. It is a beautiful old City combining ancient masques, Gothic and Mudejar church, synagogue and Renaissance Palace. One could spend several days exploring the mysteries of this wonderful small town.

The city is also a leading political, economic and cultural center including the production of crafts. It is an important source of historical, artistic and cultural heritage.

The Tajo river crosses the province cutting between the two most important cities, Toledo and Talavera de la Reina.

Other cities that are enchanting, of interest and worth a vist are Cuenca and Albacete. But one should also take into consideration several other delightful and alternative routes, among them: Ruta de los Pueblos Negros (Route of the Black Villages), having their name from the use of slate in their traditional architecture, the "Route of the Saffron Fields", "Route of the Castles", and the "Route of Don Quijote", named after Cervante's legendary "Man from La Mancha". Still today you will see many of those characteristical windmills Don Quijote was fighting with in all the land.
