Apulia - The heel of Italy

If the peninsula of Italy is shaped like a boot, then Apulia (Puglia) is the heel.

The wonderful coastlines, on the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, from the northern Gargano peninsula to the southest Santa Marina di Leuca, are so different and uncontaminated, like the mountain and the rural inland.

But Apulia is not only well-know for its nature but also for its fertile countryside, its gorgeous cities as Brindisi, called "the East Door", its ancient and artistic heritage and, of course, for its delicious gastronomy, in which there are still traces of its great past.

One of the most attractive characteristics of this region is the little towns with plenty of strange, whitewashed dome roofed houses called trulli, most importantly the town of Alberobello.
