About the property
Casa Lucia is an old olive press beautifully converted into seven cottages, set in glorious gardens with a unique swimming pool decorated with mosaics. Each unit varies in size and design, but all are comfortable and retain the old beams, clay tile roofs and thick stone walls which keep them cool in summer, warm in winter. The place is peaceful and relaxing; people of all nationalities and ages return year after year; children are safe and free; groups feel at ease; people on their own are not lonely. Special attention is paid to cleanliness and maintenance with daily maid service (except for Sundays and holidays), and unobtrusive management ready with help and information when needed. We are a family business and our aim has always been to respect the environment while offering people a fulfilling and relaxing holiday. There is TV only in reception for specials such as the Olympics, telephone/internet also only in reception; table and ceiling fans in the cottages instead of air conditioning for our own health and the planet's; yoga, t'ai chi, beauty treatments and therapies, plenty of books, fresh air, green grass, lovely flower scents, birdsong, stars at night, - now that's a real holiday.
Inside the property
Each cottage differs in size and layout; most have a double bed, two single beds, living/dining area; all have a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom.
All linen is provided including beach towels; daily maid service and towel change, twice-weekly linen change. Beach umbrella, shopping/beach bag provided and welcome pack on arrival.
Outside the property
Clever design allows each cottage to have a secluded area of the gardens to themselves; table, chairs, sun loungers, umbrella, bbq; the White Cottage on the first floor has a balcony. The gardens are famous for their beauty; lawns, mature trees, climbing roses, jasmine and vines, flowerbeds full of colour and scent, fruit trees and The Hedge. The oval swimming pool has just been redecorated with beautiful mosaics; surrounded by shady pergolas shaded by roses and jasmine, with dining tables and chairs, plenty of sun-loungers.
About the local area
Sgombou is a small village in the centre of Corfu, an ideal setting-off point to explore the whole island. Casa Lucia is set 200m back from the main road where we find the wonderful village shop, selling everything from fresh milk and bread, fruit, vegetables to rugs and cosmetics. Here also is the bus stop with regular service into Corfu town, or to the Northwest beaches. Sgombou has an excellent ceramics centre; and a kebab house. 2-3 km further away are beaches, tavernas, postoffice, supermarkets and ATMs; car, motorbike and bike hire can easily be arranged.
Traveling to the property
There are daily charter flights in summer from many European cities direct to Corfu, and 2-3 times daily air connections with Athens. The Capodistria airport of Corfu is 12km from Casa Lucia, 20� taxi fare. Arriving by ship is a beautiful first impression of the island; daily services from Italy and mainland Greece to Corfu, as well as hydrofoil and ferry service to Albania. The main harbours are 10km away. Seaplanes link Corfu to the other Ionian islands as well as to Brindisi in Italy, leaving from Gouvia marina, just down the road from Casa Lucia.
